As we reflect on Hebrews 5:11-14, I invite you to consider the vitally important question: Am I truly growing in my faith? The author of Hebrews delivers a challenging message to his readers, noting a concerning trend of spiritual stagnation—an unwillingness to move beyond spiritual milk to solid food. This metaphor resonates with us today, as we often see a similar culture within our churches where many remain content with shallow understanding rather than diving into the deep truths of God.

Imagine entering a restaurant where everyone is drinking milk from baby bottles. It’s a jarring image, one I often reference to illustrate our spiritual state. How many times have we walked into church expecting to be fed, only to find ourselves encountering messages lacking substance? We can't settle for these basics. Just as physical growth requires nourishment, so does our spiritual journey.

The path to maturity in Christ is not instant; it requires intentionality and effort. Just as Paul urged the Philippians to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,” we too are called to diligently engage with Scripture, prayer, and community. Spiritual lethargy can lead to a dangerous regression where the vibrant truths of the Gospel fall dull on our ears.

As you face this week, I encourage you to evaluate your spiritual habits. Are you engaging with God’s Word daily? Are you seeking deeper truths, challenging beliefs, and exploring difficult theological topics? It’s time to move past the easy bites of faith that leave us empty and pursue the hearty meals that will fortify us against the culture’s competing narratives.

Personal Challenge:
This week, take concrete steps to deepen your understanding of God. Dedicate specific time to read challenging Scriptures and explore theological questions that have long intrigued you. Perhaps commit to joining a Bible study or exploring online resources that delve deeper into the faith.

Let us not remain as spiritual infants but strive to become mature followers of Christ who can discern good from evil. Together, let’s commit to growing in faith and knowledge, making the conscious choice to feast on the solid food that God provides.

May this week be filled with a renewed passion for the Word, and may we grow stronger as we seek Him wholeheartedly.
