Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:5-6
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’”

As I was able to take a week off from preaching, it was a blessing to hear Craig Spear’s powerful sermon on facing the new year without fear. In a world rife with uncertainty and turmoil, these words resonate deeply. Over the last few years, we've navigated a landscape filled with unexpected challenges: a global pandemic, social unrest, and personal crises that can leave us feeling vulnerable and anxious. As we stand on the precipice of a new year, we, too, may wonder, “What’s next?”

Craig reminded us of the two men on a leaky ship amid a raging storm. Their choice was not between safety and danger but between moving forward with faith despite the uncertainty. This vivid illustration invites us to face 2026 with similar courage, knowing that Christ promises His constant presence and support.

In Hebrews 13:5-6, we find assurance in God’s unwavering promise: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” This declaration is a powerful assurance that should echo in our hearts as we consider the fears that may paralyze us. Discontentment, often fueled by our obsession with material wealth and societal standards, can cloud our vision of God's true provisions. Instead, we must seek contentment rooted in our relationship with Christ.

As we prepare for the year ahead, I challenge you to reflect on these four key principles:

  1. Contentment in Provision: What are you truly dependent on for security? Is it your finances, relationships, or status? Embrace the truth that true contentment comes from knowing Christ as your sufficiency.

  2. Companionship in His Presence: Remember that you are never alone. Make a conscious effort to invite Christ’s presence into your daily life, acknowledging that He walks with you through every challenge.

  3. Confidence in His Promises: Meditate on the promises of God – they’re steadfast and true. In moments of trial, reiterate them to yourself: “The Lord is my helper.”

  4. Comfort in His Protection: Just as a parent reassures a child, God stands by you, offering comfort and courage as we face the unknown together.

As we venture into this new year, let us replace fear with faith, trusting that God’s plans for us are good. Take time this week to pray and ask God how you can anchor yourself in His presence, provision, and promises. Allow this security to motivate you to engage more deeply in His community and serve others with joy.

Let us walk into 2026 with unshakeable confidence, knowing that our Helper is with us every step of the way.

Prayer:
Lord, as we embark on this new year, help us to focus on You, our Provider and Protector. Teach us to find contentment in our circumstances and reassurance in your promises. May we face the unknown with courage and grace, reflecting your love to those around us. Amen.
