God doesn’t leave worship up to our preferences—He cares deeply about how we approach Him. In this message, “The Superior Covenant” from Hebrews 9:1–5, Pastor Ryan Skolrud walks through the Old Testament tabernacle, its furniture, and the mercy seat to show how every detail of the first covenant’s worship regulations was intentionally designed by God to point us to Jesus. From the lampstand and the bread of the Presence, to the veil, ark of the covenant, and the cherubim overshadowing the mercy seat, we see how Christ is our true light, our bread of life, our atoning sacrifice, and our Great High Priest who entered the real Holy of Holies with His own blood.
This sermon will help you see that true worship is not about empty ritual or doing “what feels spiritual,” but about responding to God on His terms—in Spirit and in truth—by offering our whole lives as living sacrifices in view of His mercy. Whether you’re curious about how the Old Testament connects to Jesus, wrestling with what “acceptable worship” really means, or longing to better understand the cross as both propitiation and expiation, you’ll be invited to trust Christ’s finished work and submit every part of your life to Him in worship.
