As we continue our journey through Hebrews, we encounter profound truths about the priesthood of Christ in Hebrews 7:18-22. Last Sunday, I emphasized how Jesus initiated a better covenant, one that ushers us into grace rather than binding us to the unyielding demands of the law.
The author of Hebrews boldly states that the previous command was annulled because it was weak and unprofitable. The law, while good and just, reveals our inability to achieve righteousness on our own. It acts as a mirror, exposing sin but offering no remedy. Paul elaborates in Romans, explaining that the law shows us our failures and ultimately leads to death because we cannot possibly live up to its demands.
At times, we fall into the trap of viewing our faith as a series of rules to be followed—a burden that can feel overwhelming. But this is not the essence of our calling. Jesus invites us to exchange our yoke of legalism for His gentle, easy yoke. He carries the load and provides the rest our weary souls crave.
This week, I encourage you to reflect on your relationship with the law versus your relationship with Christ. Consider areas in your life where you strive in your own strength, feeling the weight of responsibility press down on you. As you identify these areas, intentionally surrender them to Christ. Trust in His promise that you can draw near to God through Him.
Personal Challenge: Look for one way to trade your burdens for Christ’s yoke. This could be through prayer, scripture meditation, or simply resting in His grace. Remember, we are not saved by our works; we are saved by faith in the One who fulfilled the law for us.
Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” May this truth resonate throughout your week, providing a source of strength and encouragement.
